B2B catalogue website design for Nam Thành Công

A catalogue website with thousands of telecom, industrial and measurement products: a multi-level taxonomy, lookup by brand and specs, and a quote form for each product.

Nam Thành Công is an authorized distributor of telecom, IT, industrial and measurement equipment, in business for more than 10 years. The website works as a catalogue for business customers: a large product range across many categories, where users search by product code or by specific specs instead of browsing.

A two-axis taxonomy: product category and brand

On a retail site with a few hundred products, the category structure is a side issue. On a B2B catalogue with thousands of SKUs across very different categories, from network gear to earth resistance testers, it drives everything else.

Three requirements pulled against each other. The structure had to follow industry logic so purchasing engineers could find things, it had to be SEO-friendly to catch searches by device name, and it couldn't slow down filter queries.

Keeping filters fast as the catalogue grows

Multi-criteria filtering across thousands of products is where WordPress slows down most easily, because its default data structure wasn't designed for it.

My fix was to index the filter combinations people actually use instead of trying to optimize every possible combination. Traffic data showed that customers almost always filter by product category first, then narrow down by brand or spec range. I indexed that combination first, and adding new products doesn't slow it down.

Product pages written for purchasing engineers

B2B customers need standardized specs to compare, technical documents to send to their engineering team for approval, and a quick way to ask for a price. So each product page has three fixed blocks:

  • A spec table in one consistent format across all product categories
  • An attachments area (datasheets, PDF catalogues)
  • A quote form built into each product

When a customer asks for a quote, the product information goes along automatically, so the sales staff don't have to ask again "which model do you need?".

Catalogue data syncs from KiotViet (a Vietnamese point-of-sale system for retail shops) to cut manual data entry. It follows the same model I used for 1Pro and MacOne.
